TOPIC: Spirituality in Everyday Life - by Cherag Regina Coeli McKnight

FROM THE HINDU SCRIPTURES
The Bhagavad Gita

Krishna:
In this world there are two roads of perfection, as I told thee before, O prince without sin:  Jnana Yoga, the path of wisdom of the Sankhyas, and Karma Yoga, the path of action of the Yogis.  Not by refraining from action does man attain freedom from action.  Not by mere renunciation does he attain supreme perfection.  But great is the man who, free from attachments, and with a mind ruling its powers in harmony, works on the path of Karma Yoga, the path of consecrated action.  Action is greater than inaction:  perform therefore thy task in life.

FROM THE BUDDHIST SCRIPTURES
The Dhammapada

Live not a low life; remember and forget not; follow not wrong ideas, sink not into the world.  Arise!  Watch.  Walk on the right path:  follow not the wrong path.  He who follows the right path has joy in this world and in the world beyond.

He who in early days was unwise but later found wisdom, he sheds a light over the world like that of the moon when free from clouds.  He who overcomes the evil he has done with the good he afterwards does, he sheds a light over the world like that of the moon when free from clouds.

Better than power over all the earth, better than going to heaven and better than dominion over the worlds is the joy of the man who enters the river of life that leads to Nirvana.

FROM THE ZOROASTRIAN SCRIPTURES
The Zend Avesta of Zarathrustra

In what fashion is manifest Thy Law?  O Thou Great Creator!
Ahura Mazda made answer:  By good thought in perfect unity with reason, O Zarathustra!
Taking all good things, taking all that is the Offspring of Good Asha.  Of the mind, good Thoughts;  of the Tongue, good Words;  of the Hand, good Works:  these make the virtuous Life.
To obtain the treasures of the material world, O, Zarathustra!  Forego not the World of Asha...

All these gifts of the Good Spirit have been offered back in gratitude unto Thee, by the Mind and the Deed of the generous and thoughtful man, whose life progresseth in harmony with the Cosmic Order, in homage toward Thee, O Mazda!
What is, then, Thy Kingdom, O Mazda?  What are Thy riches?
Thine Own, in my actions, that I may become Living with the Cosmic Order and Thy Good Mind.

FROM THE HEBREW SCRIPTURES
Psalms 27:13

I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living!

Psalms 133

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!  It is like the precious ointment from the head, that ran down upon the beard of Aaron; that went down the skirts of his garment.

FROM THE CHRISTIAN SCRIPTURES
Matthew 25:34-40

Then the King will say to those at his right hand.  "Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me."  Then the righteous will answer him, "Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink?  And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee?  And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee?"   And the King will answer them, "Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me."

FROM THE ISLAMIC SCRIPTURES
The Koran

Be steadfast in prayer, enjoin justice, and forbid evil.  Endure with fortitude whatever befalls you.  That is a duty incumbent upon all.  Do not treat men with scorn, nor walk proudly on the earth:  Allah does not love the arrogant and the vainglorious.  Rather let your gait be modest and your voice low.  He that surrenders himself to Allah and leads a righteous life stands on the firmest ground.......

And hold fast, all of you together, to the cable of Allah and do not separate.  And remember Allah's favor unto you; how ye were enemies and He made friendship between your hearts so that ye become brothers by His grace;  Thus Allah maketh clear His revelations unto you that haply ye may be guided.

FROM THE VADAN, GAYAN, NIRTAN OF HAZRAT INAYAT KHAN

Life is an opportunity, and it is a great pity if man realizes this when it is too late.

He who does not miss the opportunity of doing some good is good;  and he who seizes upon such an opportunity when it occurs, is better still; but he who always gooks out for an opportunity for doing good, is blessed among men.

Life itself becomes a scripture to the kindled soul.

Spirituality is in no way a hindrance to worldly progress.  A worldly success when gained through the power of spirituality has a stronger foundation.

Meditation on bringing qualities into your being:

Think of situation in life.  What quality is called for to deal beautifully with that situation?

What quality do you feel emerging within you strongly now.

What quality do you wish for your spiritual unfoldment.

Then try the 5-pointed star meditation.  Stand with arms and legs extended.  Imagine a being to your right, left, behind, in front, at your head.  For each being, connedt that being with a quality coming through you from that being.  Breathe it in, radiate it out the heart.  Making qualities adamant in your being and your life.
